Triathlon was a good one!
Hi everyone, back from Bend last night and had a great time.
The triathlon was super fun and I felt that I did very well. The water was 60 degrees which is very cold to swim in, even with a wetsuit. (If you're used to swimming in pools, public pools are typically kept at 82-84 degrees) even one degree in a pool can make a big difference. Needless to say, I was in the third wave of swimmers and in my wave I was the third person to get out of the water. The two people ahead of me were males. I had caught up and passed many of the second wave of swimmers and felt that I had done well. Something different about this triathlon from the others that I have competed in is that the transition area was different from the swim start and there was about 500+ yards from the swim finish to the transition area for the bike. Having just climbed out of the water, I didn't really have the immediate energy to run to the bike. I did my best, trying to adjust to temperature, wiggle out of my wet suit and make it to my bike.
Once there, I was very pleased to have my new bicycle to try out for my first triathlon. I could tell right away that it was going to make a big difference. Yahoo! I still got passed by plenty of cyclists that I probably slaughtered on the swim. But that means I need to spend some more time on my bike! And when it came time to run. I was pleased to feel like I wasn't getting passed by folks. My run split wasn;t that great, but I still felt like I finished strong. I did not win the swim:( Some 21 year old did. But damn it, I felt like I won it for what it's worth. It kind of makes me wish that the waves were set up by swim time, so that I could have seen my competition.

As you can see, I've gained back weight and flux in the last couple of days, phooey. I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with the paleo chocolate chip coconut flake cookies I made. Or traveling and eating food on the road. Yes, paleo, but alas sitting in the car isn't exactly physical activity.

Leaving today for Bend
My big triathlon is on Sunday and the family and I are packing up for Bend. I'm super excited and nervous. I have so much to go pack and do before we go that I don't really have time to do a full post like I'd like to. (actually I did write a post earlier and it didn't save, alas, that's life)

Things are moving in the right direction! I'm having good success with sticking to the diet. Date night with my spouse on Saturday night was a little challenging picking a place to eat that didn't seem like it was going to be nightmare of cheese (yum) or other too tempting situations. Or just too expensive! I mean we could have had steak and oysters but it was a little out of our price range for the evening.
We did walk downtown and back with many side adventures which made for good exercise and we earned our sweet potato fries for sure! Now it's just a matter of keeping with it and working in the exercise. I've got a triathlon on Sunday in Bend which I'm very excited about. Think good swim, think good swim, think good swim.....
Well, if anyone has some thoughts, concerns or questions, please feel free to post!

Phase 2 begins Day one of the Paleo challenge.
I have three official active participants. However, if anyone is on the sidelines and participating as well that's great too!
Thus far, the most remarkable change for me is the chest, waist and hips. The weight has fluxed a lot and hopefully with the diet this will be more consistent.
I have included these pictures of myself, from today, that are not flattering AT ALL! However, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
After the 6 weeks of paleo, the after pictures better look good or else!!!!

Day 27, 28, 29 and 30
Phase 1 is complete:
Here are the results
July 2
no stats, on Ames Lake, Washington. I did swim about 3 miles and go on a nice steep bike ride.
Day 28 same as above.
Day 29:
Weight: 168.6
Fat %: 24.9
Water %: 54.4
Day 30:
Weight: 168.6
Fat %: 24.9
water %: 54.4
The moral of this story is that my weight, fat %, and water % were not impacted a lot by a new regimen, I really need to look at diet and how I eat. To be continued with phase 2.

Wednesday was the last day of the first session of boot camp.
It was the day that we had the opportunity to repeat our CINDY workout from the first week. It was changed up a little bit. As you may recall, the first week was 5 push-ups, 10 trio (kettlebell squat, bicep curl, standing press, tricep curl, and then 15 swings.
This time we did the first two the same and the last one was changed to 15 snatches per arm. Yes, this was much more challenging.
I don't recall what weight I used for the first round, however, this round I used the 20lb weight. Which was great for all of them and challenging for the snatch.
15 minutes was our time.
First round of CINDY'S I finished 9+
Second round of CINDY's I finished 7 2/3.
Well, then it was off to the straw run and I was already exhausted from the CINDY's, not to mention that I had already done a warm up run of a quick mile before hand. OH, and while I'm whining, did I mention that I think I broke my pinky toe on Monday. I dropped a stainless water bottle on it full of ice water.... I know, break out the violins, poor me;(
Needless to say, I finished the first mile in a dismal 8:17 and let the throbbing toe have a break. Worked on a few of the Turkish get-ups and called it a night.
All together, the first session went great. I feel much stronger and am looking forward to the next phase. I'm learning a lot from Dana and appreciate all that she is teaching me! (She is an exceptional trainer with so much knowledge!)
